This year, my hometown of Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, is the European Capital of Culture. To celebrate, The Northern Film Festival is running a bit longer than usual this year, from November 5th to 11th.
This edition is particularly special for me. I had the pleasure of working as Director of Photography on a promo film for the 'New Generation' programme, collaborating with director Bart Dokter, drone specialist Theo Galama, filmmaker Jurgen Bakker, audio guru Linze Valk, editor Jurian Gerard, color grader Robbert Nieuwenhuis, G&E master Frans Tigchelaar and others.
Meanwhile, I’ve been in touch with my former professor, Nezih Orhon, from Anadolu University in Eskisehir, Turkey. We still talk regularly, and this year, he’s coming to the festival with several of his film students; a plan we've been working on since May.
I’ll also be part of a panel discussion on alternative ways to finance films. And last but certainly not least, I arranged a masterclass by the world-renowned cinematographer, friend and mentor, Geoff Boyle, NSC.
And of course, I'll be watching a dozen films throughout the festival. Because. Well, why not? It's a film festival after all.
Needless to say...
It’s going to be a great week.
