It’s been a while since Update 1 on 'Get in' (or on anything else for that matter), but we haven’t been sitting still. As if an amazing actor like Mark Ryan isn't enough, there will now be other talented people collaborating on the project as well. Below is a rundown of what I, and we as a team have been working on.
With this short film, I want to create a visually and narratively strong film, while also contributing to regional film development and innovative storytelling in the Netherlands.
Soundtrack
UPDATE 06-05-2025 | I originally planned to compose the music for 'Get in' myself. Back in my student days, I often created the soundtracks for my own projects and since this is my first personal film since then, it felt fitting to return to that approach. I’ve always loved working on music and I’ve really missed it. But then composer Renger Koning read the script and he really connected with it. He offered to collaborate on and compose the score. How could I say no? Renger's work included soundtracks for 'Die Welt', 'My Name is Nobody' and 'The Occupant.' He's won multiple awards. Renger and I go way back. Fifteen years, in fact. He was already working professionally when he generously offered to compose the music for my graduation documentary 'Dreams of Change' that was shot in Namibia, Africa. I’m excited to team up with him again after all this time. Renger is currently based in Almere, but has his roots in the north of the Netherlands (Groningen).
Student involvement
UPDATE 14-03-2025 |As a part-time lecturer in the Creative Business program at NHL Stenden, I’ve involved a group of motivated students in the production. This collaboration serves as a form of talent development, giving students the chance to gain hands-on experience in a professional film setting. They can earn extra-curricular points and they will be credited on IMDb. It’s an opportunity for them to grow their skills and expand their networks while actively contributing and having a fun time on a real-world creative project.
Wardrobe & Make-up
UPDATE 05-03-2025 |  Saskia Wagenvoort has joined the team as wardrobe and make-up. With an impressive background in the film industry, she was responsible for casting extras for Zwartboek (Black Book), directed by Paul Verhoeven and has contributed to numerous other productions. Beyond her work in film, Saskia is also a highly talented and creative photographer. I've always admired her work and we've known each other for years, but never had a change to work together. Saskia is Leeuwarden based.
Funding
We recently applied for funding, and now it’s a waiting game to see if we get approved.
UPDATE 25-02-2025 | We just received news that we got financed by the first fund we applied to.

Script
After many revisions since the first draft in 2023, I completed the final rewrite a few months ago. This is the version we’ll be working with as we move forward with cast and crew. Of course, things can and likely will still evolve (that’s always part of the process) but the script is now developed enough to explore subtext, visual style, and the right conceptual and practical filmmaking tools to bring it to life.
Mark Ryan
I’m so excited to be working with actor Mark Ryan,
who has collaborated with directors like Christopher Nolan and Michael Bay and shared the screen with legends such as Anthony Hopkins, among many other renowned filmmakers and actors. As a child, I used to watch him in 'Robin of Sherwood', where he played the character of Nasir. He was my favourite! It’s still hard to believe he’ll be playing the lead role in 'Get in.' Especially since, when I read the script back to myself after I had written it, it was Mark I pictured in the role of Richard. Mark lives in Leeuwarden.
Producer
Producer Klaas Bies from Drama5who really connected with the script, has come on board early on in the process as producer. He’ll be lending a hand in the budgeting and overseeing the logistical aspects of bringing the short to life. Klaas is a producer based in Harlingen.
Director of Photography
DP Willem Tiemersma
, who I’ve worked with before, will take on the role of Director of Photography. We both share a strong desire to work on projects that are more focused on storytelling, and Get In is the perfect place for us to start. Willem lives in Leeuwarden.
G&E
Frans Tigchelaar, a seasoned professional who works in the camera, electric and grip departments on some of the biggest films shot in the Netherlands, will be collaborating with us on Grip & Electric. I’ve worked with Frans before. he’s not only great fun on set, but also an outstanding professional. Frans also lives in Leeuwarden.
Editor
Allard Zoetman,
a highly skilled and well-known editor and VFX artist and compositor, has joined the team for the post-production of our film. Allard might also join the shoot as a post-production supervisor. We go back almost twenty years to MacGyver Amsterdam and Istanbul. Allard is now based in Haarlem, but he has his roots in Friesland (Schiermonnikoog).
Storyboards
I had a video call with storyboard artist Ted Slampyak Kinyak, who has worked on Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and many other projects. He recently reached out while looking for fellow creatives and production companies in the Netherlands. After getting acquainted, he offered to create storyboards for 'Get in'. If our budget allows, this will prove very useful for several specific shots. Ted is from the US, but recently moved to the Netherlands (The Hague).
Location Scouting
We’ve shortlisted potential locations and will start scouting in May.
Shot List
A while back, I started extensively shot-listing the short film—breaking down the script, generating a lot of shots, and then refining them to the essentials. DP Willem Tiemersma has done the same. Soon, we’ll compare our shot lists, see where they align or differ, and finalise our approach from there.
Lighting Plan
At the same time, Willem and I have been collaborating on how to light the car (both interior and exterior) as well as the surrounding environment such as the trees, the road, and everything in between.
Principal Photography
Principal Photography is now set somewhere between June and August of 2025.
More updates will be posted here every once in a while.
